A HUGE thank you to Grace Lutheran School for their donation of 200 new, fantastic books of all types, ranging from board books to picture books and chapter books to informational texts, graphic novels and teen literature. ECBC is especially grateful for the hard work of these 6th grade boys, who organized and conducted the school-wide book drive as their spring service project. The boys made flyers to distribute to school families, created their own video/commercial to share with all of the classes, made book collection boxes, ran book collection tables for the 12 day that they held the book drive. This is the first (and only) book donation that we received from a school during the 2020-2021 school year, so we are deeply appreciative. Thank you Grace Lutheran and especially this crew of terrific boys!.
PLEASE HELP! ECBC needs some help so that we can provide literary treats for patients and siblings living at Miracle Manor, which is Miracles for Kids’ subsidized housing for CHOC patients (most of whom are currently battling cancer). Last year we were invited to attend their Christmas party, and we were thrilled to be able to provide storytime and books for every child living here. There’s no party this year per Covid, but we have promised the books! Our Miracle Manor wish list on Amazon has titles that have been specifically selected to match the age and interests of every child — we need every book on the list to be able to gift to every child! Delivery happens in 10 days — please help if you can! We also still need a huge number of books for our CHOC holiday book deliveries — see that link below too. THANK YOU for helping hospitalized kids to thrive through the holidays with books and reading!

Now that it’s October, we are starting to collect Halloween-themed books for ECBC’s 2nd Annual BOO-KS for Treats at CHOC Children’s Hospital! CHOC’s Halloween trick-or-treating event is a special event for Ethan, as he participated in it just two days after he was diagnosed with Leukemia and the same day that he had surgery to place his port and begin chemotherapy. CHOC has 100+ booths for patients and siblings to trick or treat at (candy, toys, Build-a-Bear), and ECBC’s BOO-KS for Treats booth let’s them trick-or-treat for new Halloween books! We need 300-400 books for patients and sibs of all ages. Please click here to access our Halloween-themed wish list. All books purchased will be sent directly to ECBC and stamped with donor name. WOW — what a collection of Halloween-themed books we have for our Books for Treats booth tomorrow at CHOC Children’s Hospital! Over the last few weeks, we collected a total of 371 new, high-quality Halloween books of all kinds (board books, picture books, beginning readers, easy chapter books, and middle grade chapter books). Thank you to Arroyo Elementary School for the 156 Halloween books you donated (as well as the additional 44 non-Halloween books you donated this month) — Principal Sheyka, we appreciate your support on social media and on campus so much!
Thank you also to the National League of Young Men Tustin (Class of 2020), and especially Aidan Miller, for the 64 Halloween-themed books that you collected as part of your terrific book drive (230 books total).
And thank you to Once Upon a Storybook for the beautiful display you created in your store this month to support our Halloween book drive, as well as for the 27 Halloween-themed books your customers purchased to donate! And finally, thank you Amazon customers for the 124 books you donated by purchasing off our Halloween Wish List. A special thank you to the following for the significant number of books you donated: Sharon and Tod Paris (56 books), Ashley Netsky (23 books), and Rob and Brooke Lieberman (20 books). We easily made our goal of 250-300 books, and we can’t wait to give these to CHOC patients tomorrow. Thank you everyone for your support!!!
Yesterday Ethan attended the National League of Young Men Tustin Class of 2020’s meeting and received a terrific donation of 230 new books for Ethan & Choco’s Book Club! 65 of these were Halloween books and will be added to our Books for Treats collection for our Halloween event at CHOC tomorrow, and the rest will be added to our lending and gifting libraries (with bookplates on every book indicating that NYLM Tustin is the donor). What a fantastic mix of books of all types your donors chose! Thank you Class of 2020 for this awesome book drive. And a big thank you to Aidan Miller for your awesome job organizing the book drive and introducing Ethan yesterday!! We appreciate this so very much, as these are the kinds of significant donations we’ll need on a regular basis to create a sustainable library at CHOC — a library where half of the books will always need to be replaced because so much will be gifted (due to germs and sanitation rules, patients being discharged, etc). Thank you NYLM!!!
